Just purchased a 2006 Vibe from one of my family members. Only has 40,000 miles on the vehicle. The family member bought it brand new and has had no problems with it till last spring. Started shifting hard into gear. From park to drive and reverse and 1-4. Dealer said it was a computer problem and replaced free of charge. The vibe had around 36,000miles when that happened. Just didnt know if someone could tell me some of the common problems the vibe has had so i can save up and be prepaired in case something does go wrong. Love it so far!

Not much really. I'd say just keep up with the maintenance. Do oil changes, and be sure to periodically check the engine oil level. Keep your tire pressures appropriate, and always screw the gas cap on tight. At some point, change or get changed the coolant, and the tranny fluid but at only 40K miles, not something you should need to do right away. If you need one, you can download a PDF of the owners manual from http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=1010welcome to genvibe

At some point in time the gear on that motor that switches from inside to outside air will get stripped and start making a thumping sound. There are at least 2-3 threads here on that. Dealer repair is about $200 total parts/labor. You might get lucky and not encounter that common issue. One would think Toyota would have improved that part, but I guess they need something to keep the service department profitable.

Well right now im recovering from knee sugery, so once i can get it cleaned up good and get some pics of it before my wife gets it dirty again. Thanks for the input. I figured it would be a good car for us, I thought it was kinda weird about the whole computer needing to be replaced but gm replaced it for free so i wont complain.

mine is an 03 with something like 135xxx if i remember right. i bought it from a friend and i know all its had is front pads, one new caliper, rear shoes are still factory. about six months ago my friend had to have the ac compressor replaced and i just put in a new 02 sensor around a couple months ago. also i need to tighten up my driver window, it was never taken in for the recall and i have just noticed it being loose now. pretty good i would say

good point...I forgot about the window thing. I had my uncle (Toyota mechanic) tighten mine up. Took him 5 minutes
