My Baby got totaled yesterday

Cruising down the 5 freeway with torrents of rain falling I glance in my left rear view mirror just in time to see another car sliding out of control at me. There's no time to move, just the unpleasant sound of metal crunching as I spin 180 degrees. I'm now pointed at the center divider hurling out of control and in a instinctual move I pull the e-brake and avoid what would have been a much worse outcome. Low and behold upon exiting my car to face the culprit, it is another Pontiac Vibe GT also totaled. Wow a 2 for 1 deal, luckily the other driver and I will be walking away, but the cars won't be so lucky. This has by far been the best car I have ever had and I'm sad to see her go. Now what do you guys think they'll offer me 2003 Pontiac GT 200k, excellent condition other than the crash. I had actually just pulled the cam cover to adjust the valves and Mobil 1 really did a great job, no signs of real wear. [IMG][/IMG] [IMG][/IMG] [IMG][/IMG] [IMG][/IMG] [IMG][/IMG]

Why can't I attach photos?

Wow sorry to hear about that.. Really weird how they are both the same cars! The photos have to be uploaded on a site such as photobucket. Then, copy and past the link with the [IMG][/IMG] around it. Or you can upload one from your computer by attaching it, but only one can be attached per post.

It's always a painful thing to lose a really good car... one that you truly loved. I'm sorry for you, and the other driver too, but glad you and he/she are OK.At least a car can be replaced. The coincidence is weird though. You are not liable to get much from the insurance company though... I'd guess a few thousand at best.

wow, a double vibicide, both GTs too. Great that you both walked awayI found this "BEFORE" picture, from about three years ago when you were mike7311 here. It was beautiful then, the ghoul in me wants to see some "after" shots. You can check places like cars.com and autotrader.com to get a feel for what comparable 2003 GTs are selling for. (or for possible replacement vehicles) Unfortunately, insurance probably isn't going to pay what the car was worth to you, 200K miles on an eight year old Pontiac isn't going to have the resale value you feel it merits, regardless of how pristine the car was last month. http://forums.genvibe.com/zero...14857 talks about posting pictures here on the forum. My preference is to have people upload pics to a post, even if it is limited to one post per picture. There are many threads here that used to have important pictures that people hosted off line, but they (and the pictures) have moved on and now the threads just have broken image icons instead of the pictures. If you upload them to the forum, the pictures will be here as long as the forum is. Just have to remember to keep the image file size under 1MB.

I feel for ya. I had a silver 2001 Civic EX. Great car but I was rearended by ANOTHER silver civic on the highway. Yes its a SCARY feeling looking in your mirror & have no time to even blink! I would have had a ZERO car payment by now cause the Civic would have been paid off in 2009....grrrrrr.....Glad you are ok though.

A Vibe murder-suicide, what a shame. The freeways here in SoCal were definitely treacherous over this last week of rain. My office overlooks I-5 right where there is a low spot, a perfect setup for hydroplaning. Saw 4 separate spinouts/collisions just on Monday alone. State has no money to fix the road. Glad you're OK.

Rain claims another pair of victims. It's a bit of a fun coincidence that it was a dual-Vibe accident/collision. And two GTs too. Regardless, it's never a good thing to lose your car in an accident. Hope this doesn't cause too much stress. If you still have trouble with attaching photos, you can email them to me, and I'll put them on my Photobucket account, and post them here.

Dang dude, glad you and the other driver are ok. Still a major drag though. Vibes go to Car Heaven so that is a positive!

Prepare to get bent over...

Sorry 'bout the Vibe(s). I know full well how much it sucks, and will suck more. I had a '95 Dodge Dakota 4WD that got totalled after just 4 years. Paid about 28k for it, insurance paid me 11k.... it had 103,000 miles on it. I went to the local Dodge dealer hoping to get some ammunition to fight the insurance company with. "103,000.... we wouldn't even bother putting it on the lot, who would buy it?" It was just like new, & I'd still be driving it today. I wanna punch something just thinking about it.

It seems like insurance payments are a one size fits all proposition. My "kids" totaled an 11 year old 1976 Chevy Chevette, and a 6 year old 1993 Plymouth Vista Wagon. Neither was in very good condition. Got more than I expected from insurance co. on each.

Wow, 2 Vibe GTs! A coincidence, albeit a sad one. I'm glad you weren't hurt, though...that's always the most important thing.

I'm working on photos. As for what I will be offerred, I got 5500 from edmunds, 6100 KBB, and 6600 NADA. Edmunds is likely the closest, but I'm going to ask for more because of my Scion rims and the new tires I had just put on.

Yeah, I wouldn't take their first offer, if you have the opportunity to question it.Since the other insurance company will likely be responsible, rest assured they will try to low-ball you at first.Insurance companies love collecting their premiums, but hate having to give it back. I'm sure I'm not saying anything here we all don't already know.

Intially it doesn't look horrible, but she powerdrived my rear wheel 4" in snapping my axle and damaging the internal subframe severely.

Got the call from the insurance company and they offering 6600, which I feel is fair. They wanted 1800 to buy it back, no way. I can't find a good Vibe that hasn't been mistreated in my price range. I did find a Scion TC 2005 for 5200 with a new clutch and 150k, one owner private party. I will be picking it up this weekend.

Well, glad things worked out as well as they could have, considering. Look at it this way, you'll have an extra rim set in case something happens to the ones on your soon-to-be-Scion. From your crash photos, even the rim that took the brunt of the broken axle looked spotless, no?

The rim is completely destroyed on the inside. The subframe is bent and all of the pop seams are popped on the side shown.
