Caliper Paint Question

is there a way to match the paint color of the body to caliper paint? i want to paint the calipers red but don't want the bright tomato red (the only color red i can find) to be dramatically different than the car's color.would a body shop or paint shop be able to so this perhaps?

Don't know about a body shop but duplicolor does offer different color brake caliper paint colors.

Caliper paint must be high heat resistant and therefore I would think the average BS would not be the answer. Red is so overdone, and your car is already bright red. I would think red calipers to be a little overwhelming. Why not just pick another color?Black?Blue?Gold?Silver?Yellow?Even white would work on your red Vibe?So many colors to choose from.....

thanks for the link Keith.as far as for going a different color, Richard, i figured if i couldn't match the body's red i would go with the black or blue. but with the blue, all i find is a bright glowing blue. no biggie!thanks guys.

On my white Mazda I LOVE the blue calipers, and it would/could work w/the red, but as you suggest, you'd have to be careful not to overdo it and have it come out looking like a clown car.For reference, this is my car w/Duplicolor painted calipers... right after I did them the first time. In fact some eBay seller is using this picture to sell his caliper decals. 'Think I should be getting a cut of that? These are NOT his decals. And this is what the front ones looks like today. And also for the record, in spite of carefully prepping them, they chipped and chipped and chipped. I did about 6-7 coats including touch-ups. The spray is even worse May I suggest "investing" in the G2 EPOXY paint system, what my rotor hats/edges are painted with now.
http://www.tirerack.com/brakes...ID=41With proper prep it will last a lot longer, and it comes in many more colors as well... but it is expensive and do it outside or in an extremely well ventilated area. The stuff is nasty. It could ending up looking like your high school colors too. (Red/Gold?) The same thing might happen using white (Red/White, MY HS colors ) but that would be a matter of personal choice IMO.

Judging from your avatar... Red and Blue might not be the best idea if you are a phins fan that attends home games. As someone born and raised near Buffalo, I know a teal and orange car would probably end up getting vandalized by some dumb folks in the stadium parking lot. Not saying it's right, just trying to help you avoid potential drama.

What you see in my last post is about three years, but they began chipping within months of doing them the first time and after 2 full coats... calipers off the car. I touched them up and went over them several times. Then a few months later I did a complete repaint again... and then again later on.The fronts are certainly the worst. The rear ones have survived much better but are still showing their age. Then:Now:I made the decision about two years ago to let them go and when they were as bad as they could get, like now, redo them using the G2 epoxy system.

LOL (some people down here get so uptight about that!)Audiovibe has me considering the gold...thanks for the recommendation. if it's no-go on the gold, black it will be! i've had zero luck on finding a color match caliper paint. maybe it's time to invent it.

You want them scaled? Those are python (no, not Monty Python) skinned boots. They've yellowed a bit naturally but they used to be whiter looking.

ahhhhh i see. thought they were gold. now that i see the detail, i like 'em even more. just make sure some hippies don't throw red paint on them.

Hippies? What century are you living in? I was just a young pre-teen man when the hippies were around. I remember 'em, but was too young myself to participate. I got in when Yippies were the thing. Besides, I bathe too often to be a true hippie. And I believe red paint is for fur. I don't think the same applies to cold-blooded reptiles... but I could be wrong. And last, ya' can't have 'em!! LOLz LOLzI bought them when I was in my Stevie Ray Vaughan era. They certainly weren't the most expensive boots out there, which can easily cost upward of $1000 and more, but they weren't cheap either. I don't think I've ever spent more on footwear as I did on these boots.

Black.I used the Dupli-Color brush on kit. It's very easy to use and has stood up great so far. I am going to re-do both Vibes before I put the 18s back on in the spring though because we did get a chip or two, but that's because I didn't do a good enough job of prepping the calipers before painting them.

do you "like your calipers the same as you like your coffee"? thanks for the pics! i think i will be flipping a coin between gold and black. the gold will look good with the red; the black is clean and classy!

Agreed. It was funny then and its still funny, especially coming from the very young actors doing that scene. I'd bet they are parents, if not grandparents themselves by now.As for your other comment: Feeling a little picked on, Geoff? Don't, Man. Its all in fun.

Planning on going gold this springNo, I didn't remove the calipers and I also didn't really mask anything off because I used the DupliColor brush on kit so there really wasn't a need for masking anything. Unfortunately though the kit does not come with gold paint .
