American Honda Motor Company Inc. is recalling more than 143,000 of its compact, fuel-efficient Fit vehicles because of a potential wiring problem that could lead to the loss of low-beam headlights. The Torrance, Calif.-based arm of the Japanese automaker said the recall applies to 143,083 model-year 2007 and 2008 Fits. Though no accidents or injuries have been reported, the company said a problem with the wiring harness in the Fit’s headlight control switch could lead low-light beams to go out. High-beam headlights aren’t affected by the problem.Media reports indicate the recall also applies to about 734,000 Fits in Japan, where the U.S. models also are assembled. Honda’s North American manufacturing headquarters are based in Marysville. The company said it will begin notifying customers affected by the recall next month. Upon taking the vehicle to a dealer for inspection, the company could replace the vehicles wiring harness terminal or the headlight switch.Go to recalls.honda.com for more details
