Are there a set of Projector headlights I could buy that would pass inspection? I heard that If you convert them yourself it's an automatic fail.

you heard wrong. I do retrofits, and I have never had one customer come back to me and say, hey I failed my inspection. Check with your local mechanic that does inspections to be sure though.

Your DOT inspects headlights? Mine pulled the car into a bay wrote down the VIN, backed it out and passed me. Since it's a 2005 they don't do many checks on the car unless it's belching smoke.

My last inspection was the most I've ever seen someone do in years - lights, horn, front brakes without pulling wheels, and the OBD scan. In and out in five minutes...
