I have 18 inch tires on my GT right now. I am going down to 16s. Discount tire shows that I can go down to 215 55 16. I found a cheap pair of 205 55 16s. Will this setup work? Is it safe? Do I have anything to worry about? Any advice would be much appreciated. I don't have a clue about this.

The only thing you have to worry about with 205/55-16 winter tires are all the other idiots on the road. Especially since Vancouver literally shuts down with even a skiff of snow. What type/brand of tires are they?

Once again, 205/55/16 is what both our Vibes have for winter tires and we have had no problems. That is also the size that comes from the factory on '09-'10 Vibe Base models with 16" steel wheels.

SO I guess the GT model is basically the same? A little heavier perhaps? I called the pontiac dealer today and they said that it would be fine.

Are good year nordics any good? Will the 5 X 112 steel rims fit on the 09 vibe GT?

Goodyear Nordic are some of the most basic winter tires you can buy. It's a CanadianTire exclusive that hasn't been upgraded for a few years. They will be better than all-seasons tires for sure but they are not that good on ice.5x112 will not fit a 2009 Vibe GT. You need 5x114.3
