Well.. tonight me and a few friends went driving around to try to find cotton bails on the side of the road to jump on.. Well.. I was on a road, out in the middle of no where.. and I missed a side turn.. So I just put it in reverse and back up. I thought I was stopped after going in Reverse, but I wasn't, when I put the car into drive. The car jerked really HARD twice, and then wouldn't go at all. My CHECK ENGINE light and a couple of red warning lights, don't remember which ones, lit up on the left side by the RPMs. I don't think the car actually shut off, because the auto lights were still running as was the radio. I freaked, and just shut the car off and started it back. I had a little trouble trying to start back, but did. All warning lights went off and everything seems to be fine, but do you think I messed anything up seriously? I'm a little afraid something is going to go kaput later on..

. The key indicator would be the tach showing 0rpms . You said lights came on next to the tach but didn't say if the tach showed the engine was still moving or not. Most likely the engine stalled. If there was a lot of grinding when it stalled than you might consider having the tranny fluid changed sooner. Other than that about all you can do is to not do that anymore.

If it starts acting funny, then I'd be concerned.

Okay, I didn't notice any grinding.. It just jerked pretty hard twice. It still seems to be shifting smoothly and at the right times.

Yep... sounds like you stalled the engine. But having an automatic, it probably came as quite a shock!!! Your car will be fine, just make sure you're stopped next time you go from R to D....

Please don't do that to your car it kills your differential pin.In another word, rolling reverse anything above 8+ mi /hr will cause your engine to stall .. so the car revert itself to "ignition on " position while the engine is shut off . it require a restart.
