Hey guys... I came across this the other day... It's called FilterMag. Check out these sites if you would:http://www.filtermag.com/FilterMAG_tech ... ltermagLet me know what you think. I only wish I would've bought upon break-in of my vibe.

I've seen them before and they acutally do work fairly well. There are a couple of styles. One (like the links) wraps around the side, another is like a cap at the end.

I'm pissed.... I forgot to put a magnet on my Vibe's filter!!!! I have always put a good sized magnet on the oil filters of my new cars (or motors), but forgot to on the Vibe. Never too late I guess.I don't know if they help that much, but they can't hurt. Personally, I believe they may help pull out minute particles of steel left over from the machining processes in a new motor that may be small enough to pass through the filter. Doesn't do anything to aluminum or brass, but there's still alot of steel to steel contact in our motors, especially in the valvetrain.

I believe, if I'm not mistaken, it screws between the filter socket on the engine and the new filter...kind of like a collar almost...

Just get a cheap bar magnet and tape it onto the lower side of the oil filter. On some cars, the oil drain plug is magnetized. As I haven't yet done an oil change on my Matrix yet, I don't know if it has one or not.

quote: in the filter? Not inside, on the outside. I "obtained" a bunch of nice sized, strong magnets from a place I used to work at that hold onto the filter fine. I used to have a 600 Suzuki Katana that I sold to a guy in our town. One day shortly after I had sold it, I was out working on the siding on my house. I heard a bike go by, then heard a screech and "whack". He had been looking in to see what I was doing, not paying attention to the old lady slamming on her brakes in front of him to stop and buy some corn on the cob from my neighbor. I ran over/down to where it happened and he cut his knee rather well, but other than that he was ok. Helping him pick up the bike, I noticed one of my magnets still on the oil filter.

He actually cut one of his filters apart to prove it actually worked (after 6,000 mile with synthetic oil). Where the magnet had been, there were tiny concentrations of powdery deposits. I don't know how much it helps by doing so little, but the idea works.
