rear end alignments on vibes?

I recently took my vibe in to a GM dealership for routine maintenance and was told that I needed a rear end alignment, which cost me a small fortune. Service dept. told me all front wheel drive cars must have rear end alignments and that this is more important than front end alignments. I was very skeptical about this, and still am. The hubs were removed and shims were place behind them to bring them out. In the process of removing the rear hubs, one hub and a bearing were destroyed. I was told by several people that Vibes do not need rear end alignments. I feel I"ve been ripped off my this GM dearlership and am now trying to find out if any other Vibe owners have had this problem.Thank you

I just had mine checked after 100,000 miles and everything was fine. tire barn charged me $25 to check alignment and another $25 if i needed shims. no shims were needed. i checked to see how much at a dealer and it was $40 to check alignment and standard hour rate and $50 to 70 per shim.

I just had my rear shimmed at 120,000 miles by an independent alignment shop.

Bob and Ray once wrote that the number one cause of misalignment was an alignment.

Did they foot the cost of the destroyed hub and bearing?

I had my red 2009 done at 36,000 miles with the new Goodyear Tires. Mine needed the rear wheel alignment. it was real obvious when placed on the alignment rack, the right rear tire appeared toed out . I was told by the dealership all of these front wheel frive Pontiacs need a look-see every 25,000- 30,000 miles to get the most effective tire wear. This along with tire rotation every 5,000 miles. I agree with this. I have 42,000 miles on mine now , wife only has 9,000 miles.
