Check your lot # stamped on the bottom of the can. Enter it on the website.http://similac.com/recall/lookup.aspxEDIT: If you can get through to the website, that is. It worked fine for me this morning when I checked all my cans.

If anyone is following this, from what I have read so far, bad lot numbers are anything with "T2" or "RB" in them.I checked my cans way early this morning, and thought I'd help anyone out that couldn't get through the website or phone line. My lot numbers were NOT recalled and they are: 88244RE6 (blue can Advance Early Shield 12.4 oz. powder) and 880799V00 (pink can with orange lid Sensitive Isomil Soy 12.4 oz. powder) >

Email I got from Abbott today. I do find it disturbing that there is nothing...and I mean NOTHING anywhere on these cans that says whether or not they are made in "Sturgis, Michigan" or not. All they say on the cans is "Distributed by: Abbott Nutrition, Abbott Laboratories, Columbus, Ohio." That's it. http://abbott.vo.llnwd.net/o18...n.pdf

I know a lot about the infant formula business. It is probably the most regulated business there is, and that is why it is so expensive. From what I have read there are 5 mil cans being recalled - retail value of about $15 -$20 each I think. 99.8 % of those are beetle free so to speak. So your chances of getting a can with a beetle (or two etc.) in it is very small. I think you could examine the contents and see if any were there. In addition, while it is politically incorrect to say there is no danger, there is virtually no health issue. I read a report of a lady saying she fed her baby some of this formula and the baby was "fussy" and her baby is never fussy. Give me a break! I got a pizza this week and there was a winged ant crawling on top of it. Probably was in the box. I picked it off and ate the pizza. No big deal. What are they going to do with 5 mil cans of expensive baby formula powder? If we tried to donate it to Africa or a food bank there would be an accusation of palming off contaminated food - but it is far better than starving. In spite of various recent problems, the U.S. food supply is the best in the world. Somewhere a balance has to be made between perfection and cost to achieve perfection. The food safety bill now pending in Congress will do a little bit to make our food supply safer, but is going to add a lot of cost. Think about it - we drink, smoke, abuse drugs, drive like maniacs but worry about a beetle or two.

I was buying that square tub of formula (because it was cheaper than buying 2 cans) when I ran out of WIC checks for cans as recent as earlier this month. The price on those tubs (each) here are anywhere from $27+ (k mart & tar get) and $30+ (Longs/c vs) so I know she got some of the recalled stuff, but yeah, it could've been way worse...it could've been metal shavings from factory machine parts, pesticides...

Metal shavings in the infant formula business would be almost unheard of as they use metal detectors that are really sensitive. Any metal that would get by those are not likely to cause any harm. As for bugs, I think FDA has tolerances for insect parts in many foods such as ketchup. These are generally microscopic so you would never see them. We live in a world of insects - they surely out number us humans by many magnitudes.
