Are you SURE about that? Maybe you just forgot to reset the trip odometer at a fill?Seems near to impossible to get that much from a tank...I've never squeaked more than 250...

I couldn't believe it either but I have the fill up slips to prove it. It was from Ohio to Tennessee I was very pleased to say the least. I have 14000 miles+ on my Vibe GT right now use nothing but Premium and she runs like a champ!!!!!

OK, took me a while to respond on this one. I had to stop choking first.Even on the whole trip from Ohio to Montana I never once broke 300 miles on a tank! Why is it I can never get the good numbers? I can understand when I'm just putting around Billings, the 240-270 I get. It's all around town and I have a small problem keeping my foot out of the accelerator, but I would think that if it can be done, I would have done it going across Nebraska. Those who have made that trip will know what I'm taking about. It doesn't get much flatter than that!

I've gone over 300 a couple of times but I was down to fumes. I don't see any way possible to get to 400 with mine.

Ahh, now there's the ticket! I should mention that I've never let my car go so low as to light the fuel warning indicator. As such, I guess my numbers are a bit better than I thought. (Sometimes the simple things escape me...)

Mileage can REALLY be affected by wind. You would think that driving across a flat state would get you the best mileage, but in OK, KS, NE, there is almost alway a strong wind blowing at you if on the highway. KS, in fact, has a large wind turbine farm in it's southwest. The reason it's there is because the wind speed average is one of the highest and most constant in the country. Remember that the Vibe is tall and doesn't have a low coefficient of drag. So if the wind it at your back all the way it should be easy to crack 400miles per tank. But the wind rarely blows due east or due west, so you are likely to be struggling against a stiff crosswind.KSNeptune

Good point as well. Actually and surprisingly, I didn't hit too much wind across Nebraska. Mainly in Indiana and Wyoming. Ahh well, I'm not really complaining. The Vibe doesn't do any worse on gas than any of my other cars have. That said, I'll take my leave of this discussion...

Wow....my personal best is 373 miles on one tank. I have NEVER gotten less than 300 miles on a tank in my GT. My average is probably 315-330 per tank.Jim

I bet i could break 400+ numerous times, if i did more "highway driving"....90% of my driving is city, and I get around 325 numerous times on a tank!

quote:Seems near to impossible to get that much from a tank...I've never squeaked more than 250...Ouch I get 360 miles with me only filling my tank with 11.5-12 gallons of gas. I could hit 400 pushing it, but I'm in a base. For a GT to get that type of mileage is very impressive.

I've never gotten more than 250 either but I've only lit the low fuel light once. I reset one trip odometer every time I fill up and I usually refill around the 200 mile mark or 1/4 tank (usually about 9 gallons to fill).I also have a base/auto. Driving location and style make a HUGE difference. I'm and not light on the throttle and I do 99% city driving. Just for reference, I drive 8 miles to work and it takes me 20 minutes to get there. That's an average of only 24-mph for the entire trip. However, there are many places I reach 60+ mph. As you can see, there is alot of stop in my stop-and-go travel.I get anywhere from 19 to 23 mpg. If I were to get 23-mpg and drive until there is only one gallon left in the tank I could get about 276 miles. Even driving until dry only puts me at 299 miles.

I average about 318 Miles per tank. But I usually buy gas when the light turns on. I've put gas in the car 18 times and only 7 of those have been under 300. My highest is 375 and I only filled up then because there wasn't another gas station for a few miles (about 30). When I drive to florida from Chicago this august we will see if I can break the 400 barrier.I drive mainly on the highway, about 35-40 of my 50 miles a day.

For the 1st time I hit more then 300 mile on a tank. The fuel consuption depend on a lot of factors: type of driving, where you drive, the load you have in the car, the weather, what accessories you use.

I just drove up from Anchorage to Fairbanks doing an average speed of about 65 mph (very slow) and I filled my tank a little over 10 gallons at 345 miles. I calculated it out to be 33 mpg for that road trip. On a similar road trip, where I did not have to wait for campers and trailers, I clocked 8 gallons at 255 miles that gave me 32 mpg. That was going at an average speed of about 80 mph. I have a GT and was pretty impressed with those numbers. I just broke 3000 miles this weekend on my drive up.

My personal best was 421 miles on the tank. Probably about half with a/c on too. Kinda sucks that is was all highway driving and I used it all in one weekend. These are good mpg's relative to other cars, but something tells me that these car manufacturers can do a lot better than that. Even with plain old petrol.

Okay. Here is a breakdown from my Bryan Ohio to Phoenix Arizona trip.1) Filled up with 8.719 gallons at 257.3 miles. MPG = 29.5. Full tank may have reached 360.2) Filled up with 10.259 gallons at 244.8 miles. MPG = 24. Full tank may have reached 316.3) Filled up with 9.871 gallons at 268.9 miles. MPG = 27. Full tank may have reached 360.4) Filled up with 9.452 gallons at 243 mils. MPG = 25.7. Full tank may have reached 339.5) Filled up with 10.455 gallons at 265.3 miles. MPG = 25.4. Full tank may have reached 335.156) Filled up with 10.605 gallons at 279.8 miles. MPG = 27. Full tank may have reached 350.7) Filled up with 10.053 gallons at 285.5 miles. MPG = 29. Full tank may have reached 377.The very first tank I ran without the AC. I would have ran the whole way without a AC but my damn dog's hair was blowing everywhere... My last fill up was coming down from Flagstaff in Arizona. It is all downhill from there. When I was on the highway, I was set at 85 miles an hour. God bless my Valentine One radar detector. What an awesome piece of equipment.I think my next trip I will try setting cruise at 65 just to see what kind of gas mileage I would get. Wind direction does play a vital roll when looking at MPG.-Slink-Slink

I set my cruise at 72 or so (and actually go 70, great that the speedo is off, isn't it). And I am averaging 31 MPG with no AC.

I have a handheld GPS (actually a GPS that clips on to my Handera 330). The Vibe is consistently around 1-2 MPH off from 20 on up. I havn't gotten it fixed because I just live with it. The next time I go to the dealer, I will mention it to them. (Doesn't happen often, do most of my own maintenance).

I noticed that my GT is doing better as it gets older. Just have over 16k on mine and this last tank put out 350 miles. This tank had a mixture of highway and city, but mostly highway. I hit lift many of times and used A/C occasionally. I knew I would do well when I hit 1/4 tank at 300 miles. I'm taking a trip to the UP this weekend from Cincinnati. I will report back on how well I do going from Detroit up 75.

Averaging between 70mph-105mph on a trip to Austin and back from Dallas in the near 100 degree heat with A/C on the entire time, I got a new personal best of 31.2mpg, 390 miles on 12.5 gallons. My motor has a little over 8,000 miles on it. Seems to be getting much better with age. Those 390 miles were about 95% highway. So, that exceeds the EPA rating of 30mpg highway.

I got 413 miles on a tank this past weekend with my GT. Filled up in Lawrenceburg KY and made it to Lapeer MI, where I filled up. Didn't feel like pushing it all the way to Imlay City, as the low fuel light came on in Flint. Car was loaded with camping gear. Didn't hit lift during this stretch, and made one stop at a rest area outside of Dayton for lunch and potty.I've been tracking my mileage on my palm for the past 12,000 miles, and have averaged 29.1 mpg since then (since mid January). And yes, I do hit lift every now and then. Most of this driving is my commute, which is 32 highway miles each way.Best I was able to do with my previous car (2000 Grand Am GT) was 27 mpg on a trip to Arkansas.I love this car!

Well my Vibe is new with only 260 miles on it so far. They filled it when I bought it and its just right below the half mark. This is all in town driving so far. If it's like any of the other vehicles i've owned though once it goes below half it seems to disappear a lot faster. We will see.

Alright. I held off from saying anything as long as I could. Believe it or not, I consistently get around 36-37 mpg (hwy) in a GT. I usually get about 31-33 mpg in town and I would not classify myself as a conservative driver. I recommend to all of those who are only getting in the 250 to 300 range to take note of where you fill up. IT DOES MATTER!
