Within the past month or so, my 03 Vibe (base, manual trans) has started showing the check engine light. A scan at Auto Zone revealed the P0420 code (cat converter operating below threshold) being stored.I went to my local muffler shop today to see how bad the financial damage was going to be, and he told me my Vibe has California ULEV emissions on it, meaning that it takes a more expensive catalytic converter. I asked if a "normal" converter could be used as a replacement, and he said that it would likely not clear the CEL code, because of the ECM programming.Does this all sound Kosher to the experts here? I REALLY don't want to shell out over a grand to get this CEL problem fixed!!!! Thanks for any suggestions.
