CV Shaft problems while replacing lower control arm??

Ok I'm in a bind and need some help any info is VERY appreciated...My brother in law was in the proccess of replacing the drivers side lower control arm on my 03 Vibe GT and the cv shaft seperated where the boot is??? do I need a whole new cv shaft or can we push that one back into place... if this doesn't sound right or make sense let me know I will try to reword lol sorry (I can post pics if needed)Like I said anything is appreciated

You'll probably have to replace the boot clamp where it came off. Shove some grease into it and put it back together!

No worries. The same thing happened to me. I was able to simply lift the locking tab on the metal band to release it and push the boot back on and then re-tighten the band. The only thing that prevents the CV joints from separating are the boots. With the shaft installed, there's not enough movement of the swing arm to allow the joints to separate. With the axle shaft removed, however, it only takes a little tug to pull the boot off and separate the CV joint.
