Has anyone replaced their air filter with a more performance oriented one>? One that has a sportier appearance, and not-so boxlike in appearance? Thanks!

Yes, many people have. What Vibe do you have? Available intakes are by: Injen, AEM, K&N, Cosmo, aFe, Ebay, etc... Just search ebay and you'll find tons of them.

Thanks! Are there any particular problems with this? I worry about upsetting the air pollution junk.

Several of us '09s have installed the K&N intake (some with dry filters, some with the K&N filter) with no problems.

Roddy, I see you're from Brownsburg. It's too bad you didn't join GenVibe sooner. We had a big meet in Indy about a month ago. It would have been great if you could have joined us.

Roddy you might also want to condsider how having an aftermarket filter will actually affect performance? The K&N typhoon intakes do look cool and increase airflow but, they also place the filter in an area where its able to pick up ambient heat from the engine. That could negate some of the performance gains your trying to achive. Then theres the the cold air intakes. With this type of intake the filter is placed in an area where its low enough to suck up water if you hit a big enough puddle. Being low like that could also let it get dirty very quickly. I have one of these buy I dunno if Im gonna keep it.think my favorite mod and most trouble free option out there is to just install one of those K&N drop in replacement filters.

Well, the current placement of the stock air filter is virtually the same loacation as the replacement Spectre I have in mind, so I'm not really worried about that. The rest of what you're saying mostly escapes me; thanks for the infor tho!

right but even though the filter is placed in the same location the stock air cleaner box doesn't draw it's air from that location. It draws air from a spot further from the engine via a fresh air supply tube. this is the tube I'm talking about. This one goes with a 2.4 engine but I'm sure the 1.8s have something similar. This thing also acts as a water trap and drains water into the big bottle part.

So, let us know when that Injen CAI is up for sale.

Well, I started and it is NOT going well!! Just to see, I tried to start the motor after I got the old box off and while it will start, it will not run. Then there is a problem with mating the new Spectre air filter with the old hosing...I anyone has any helpful suggestions, I open to listening. Reminds why I stopped ever trying to work on cars...Thanks...

Roddy you might want to remove your negative battery terminal when tryig to put that back together so that it resets the cars computer. You gotta leave it unplugged for atleast an hour before starting up your car again.

Thanks for you comments; I'm abandoning the project for the present. I'm just going to button it back together and hope for the best.

You get it back together and running? I also put a K&N replacement filter in my 05. I have noticed since then more mpg and a slight increase in power.

Yes, I got it up and running with no problem! Didn't wait an hour either; don't know what that says about the computer and everything. Anyway, I'm getting ready to give it a second shot here soon.
