need help with electrical!

My 04 vibe has problems with the dash lights. When I turn on my key, they will usually go off and everything is dark. I unplugged my sensor on the dash just to see if it was interfering and now they will stay on but my tail lights are out. If I turn on my headlights manually, the tail lights will come back on but the dash lights are completely black???I appreciate your helpJim

I would first check the dimmer dial. Make sure that isn't turned all the way down.

Thanks for the reply guys. I've already checked the dimmer and I'm pretty sure its more than that. I'm thinking it could be a relay or a short? Is anyone familiar with any possible relays going bad?
