Hey Guys, Newb here.. I have been looking for this for awhile now and i searched the eforum but could not find anything, but i could've missed it so sorry if im doing a repost..Anyways, I was wondering how to remove the 10" factory sub in the 09 Vibe Gt.. I would like to remove it so that i can install my 10" JBL sub in there... So basically i have two questions:1) Is that Possible?(I.E: would it fit?)2) How do you remove the panels to get to the sub??I've tried almost everything, but keep getting scared that im going to break something..Thanks!!

The panels in the cargo area have plugs on them. Just carefully pull on them until they pop out of place. You will have to remove pretty much every plastic piece on the floor of the cargo area to be able to remove the piece that surrounds the sub. There are also a few bolts that will need to be removed as well. Just take your time so you don't break anything and you'll be fine. It's not hard and shouldn't take more than 10-15 minutes to remove everything.

The factory sub is an 8". The grille is about 10" in diameter. I always wondered why they did that.

Really, Wow i could've sworn that when I bought the car they advertised a 10 inch sub.... But does that mean that in the end i will not be able to put a 10 inch sub in??

http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=36200The sub mounts in a recess in the enclosure. The recess also adds a little strength to the front of the enclosure. A hole for a 10" sub (usually somewhere around 9") would completely take away that recess, and you may not have much left at the bottom to mount the sub to.

So that sub you installed, was it a 10" or..... Because from the looks of it im thinking of just creating a custom enclosure, unless theres an easier way:P?

That's an 8" sub. I just added a spacer in the recess, because the JBL sub is a little deeper than the stocker.

Well, I rather like the sound of the Monsoon speakers in the upgraded stock package... but then again, I personally feel that most people who prefer large aftermarket speakers like wayyyyyyyy too much bass in their music for my taste (I like an even mix with a little bass boost, like the way you would listen on a nice home stereo system)

I keep mine tunred about 3/4 of the way up.. sometimes turn it down some..

Well when i first got the car I was fine with the stock sub, but then i installed two 12" JBL subs which are 3mm RMS each!! I eventually got annoyed of the bass and removed everything, but i have to say I did some what enjoy the bass at times, thats why i find now the stock sub isn't enough for me... I mean i just spent 60$ at future shop for a 8" Infinity Sub which has 250 RMS!!, plus i got that with the two year replacement plan!! For a deal like that i couldnt say no lol!! but hey im plugging in the amp and sub today, we'll see how it goes!!

Sweet! Those subs are the same as the GTO's, I think. Mine does pretty well on 180 rms. It wasn't too bad sealed. Since adding the port, it plays lower and a little louder. I've gotten several compliments on how well the sub blends with the rest of the system, and I can crank up the bass a little if want some boom. I did put down some CLD tiles and put some foam behind the panels and under the plastic trays to keep the rattles at bay.
