So I am looking at buying and installing a CAI in my 03 base vibe. Looks like fun. But I live in Vancouver BC.. A very rainy city which makes me wonder if it might be a bad idea to install a CAI. But the real question is where does the filter end up in the engine compartment? Do you need to remove the plastic shields from the wheel well or the bottom of the car to make it fit? If you don't then I might expect that it will still work fine even in the rainy weather of Vancouver. Does anyone have a CAI and live in a particularly wet part of the world? Has hydolock been a problem for anyone? It seems like the plastic shields would be protection enough.. but then again I am just learning about all of this. If you have any experience with this I would love to hear it.thanks!joash

No, you don't need to remove any shields, but it will make it easier to install if you did loosen them at the bottom by the fog light, then tighten them back up. Just living in a rainy area you should be fine as long as you avoid puddles(or small ponds or lakes) because you never know how deep it is. There is only 1 person on here that I know of that hydrolocked, and is in Texas. He went thru a deep puddle and hydrolocked.If you are still concerned about it just get an AEM bypass and your good to go: http://www.google.com/images?q...AQwBQ

This might sound redneck.. but well I am a bit of a redneck so I come by this naturally... If I installed an SRI and then used a wind tunnel- like a dryer vent hose- to direct cool air up toward the ram from near the fog light then that would provide a direct flow of cold air and avoid the whole fear of puddles issue... Has anybody tried that... securing it might be a bit tricky, and it might look lightly ghetto, but is seems like it would solve several issues at once.

Has hydolock been a problem for anyone? /QUOTE]I have a Injen and I also have a huge rubbed hole in the wheel well .I was in a monsoon of rain resulting in flooding of many intersections I had no problem with water locking... don't let it scare you away CAI is way worth it..

Keith's setup looks good... But according to cosmo racing the 05 base cai is different from the 03-04 base cai. Which makes me wonder if i wouldn't be in for a world of hurt if I went with the wrong one. Perhaps the engine bay is shaped differently?? Has anyone actually attached an 05-06 to an 03-04?

Keith has an '05 AWD. The '03-'06 AWD's are the same as the '03-'04 Base Vibes (they all have a cable throttle) The '05-'08 Base Vibes have an electronic throttle. So you are safe with Keith's set-up. It will be a perfect fit your your Vibe. 100% Guaranteed Fit.

I didn't realize that one of those plastic pegs that was holding the splash shield was missing so it was hanging low and ended up rubbing on the tire.Anyways, I just used a bit of plastic with some sealant to patch the hole. The aFe intake would probably work better because of the heat shield
