Where is the best/easiest place to buy a bulb for a brake light for a 2003 Pontiac Vibe? And also how easy is it to change?

Any place that has the 7443 bulb. You're not going to find much of a price difference between an auto parts store vs mass market (i.e. Wal Mart). I haven't changed mine yet, but in trying to remember from other threads, I think you go through the little access doors in the rear panels.

So the part # is 7443? Is there a way I can check that myself for future reference? When I turn my headlights on, both of the rear brake lights light up, as they should. It's only when I actually press on the brake pedal that only one brake light gets brighter (as it should), while the other doesn't. So is that particular bulb still a 7443?

The 7443 is a dual filament bulb, one with higher risistance and one with lower. Which creates the dimmer light and the brighter light modes. It's the same bulb for the running lights and the brake lights. Sometimes one filament will burn out and the other one will remain intact. Mine did the exact opposite of yours, and the brake lights worked but not the running lights.Mine came in a pack of two for just over 5 dollars with tax at an O'Rielly's.It extremely easy to change these out. Just pop your back hatch open, remove the cargo access panel to the side you're changing, and if you reach inside towards the lights, the one on the top is your 7443 brake light. Just twist it a little bit (counter-clockwise i believe?) and pull it out. The bulb will pull straight out of the socket and at this time you can replace it. To put it back in, just go backwards through these steps.Hope I was of some help! :D
