Painting Gauge Cluster

Post by A Psycho Martyr »

Okay I've been putting this off because I'm a procrastinator, but the Indy Meet gave me a good reason to just DO it, so without further adue....Here's my painted gauge cluster! Started by taping off the inside. I wasn't sure if painting it would cause any kind of reflection off the gauges so I figured better safe than sorry.Okay now any time you wanna paint plastic, you need to use Adhesion Promoter. It helps prime the surface to help paint stick to it.After a few coats of that, I used grey primer to help cover the black. Then a few coats of Gloss WhiteAfter THAT I hit it twice real;ly good with Gloss Clear Coat and waited on it to dry. When it was done I pulled the tape off and put the chrome rings back on the front. Here she is all finished up!And finally, put back in the Vibe!

I'm sure it turned out well - I'd love to see these photos, but my work blocks sites like photo bucket. I'm posting here to remind myself to look when I get home.Glad to see this summer's meet is inspiring people to GTD...

That looks very nice. Did you use dash appliques for the vents?

I don't have the lock overlays. I use the key to get in, so it wasn't practical.Reassembly was a breeze. No issues getting the chrome rings back on.And vents have the overlays from grafxwerks. Seemed SO much easier than painting and it looks great.
