Ok, the weather is pretty bad lately and I dont have a garage to do the oil change myself. So I took a bottle of 5w30 to my local dealer for oil change on my 2.4L 2009 vibe.... I understand that 5w20 is prefer as per manual, but I would like to use 5w30 for added protection and is easier to buy....I notice that the receipt they print out for me include 5w30 on it, am I at risk of getting my warranty void?

Why go up to 30 if 20 is recommended? If you have the time this is a good discussion of oil viscosity.http://ferrarichat.com/forum/s...36052

Most GM dealers will use that unless you demand the 5w20 because they buy 5x30 by the drum and have to use quart cans if you want 5x20. For that reason they will add a surcharge for 5x20. But - I see no reason other then cost to use 5x30 vs 5w20.

I only read the first chapter of BITOG, but it seems virtually identical to the ferrarichat forum in the first link. Are "Bob" and Dr. Haas the same dude, or did one of them do some cuttin' and pastin'?
