All,Just got a Pioneer AVH-3200 BT head unit and I am going to try to do the install tonight.It has built in bluetooth and can sync with my phone; I need to run the microphone up to my sun visor and I have never done a head unit install in my life... lol.Hoping for recommendations on running the mic - should I try to take the panelling off the driver's side windshield column? How easy is it to snake the cable through the dash into the back of the head unit? How do I get the panelling off?I don't want broken plastic panel when I'm done!

BTW, it is a 2004 pontiac vibe that currently has the Nav system & 6 disc changer

I can't answer your exact question, but have you thought about placing the mic on your steering column? It should be a lot easier to wire and easier to access since you just have to remove the piece that surrounds the cluster. Just a thought.

The A-pillar molding on the driver's side is very simple to remove. It simply pulls off (straight) as it is basically press fit into place.Getting it there should be easy by slipping the wire from underneath the driver's dash on both sides. There are also tutorials for taking the dash off on GenVibe, but I don't think that will be necessary.By the way, what are you doing with the old stereo / navigation? What condition is it in?

Haven't determined what to do with the old head unit yet... at this point the car is still "my parents" and I'm waiting on my father for the dotted line to sign... You'd think he doesn't want the money! 15,000 miles later and I'm still waiting.So until that is resolved the old head unit will be in limbo. I may sell it when everything is resolved - appears that there is some interest in the Nav head unit and the 6 disk satellite changer.

The nav unit is in good shape, the paint on the seek button (up/down) is a little worn off, but that's it.I would imagine that the GPS receiver would also have to be removed? Getting the dash out might be a bit beyond my capability... lol.Up in the air at the moment anyway

You really wouldn't need to remove the a pillar trim to snake the cable. If you just pulled the weatherstripping back you would be able to feed the cable both directions, I would feed from the pillar into the dash. Also like Wolfman mentioned you could also mount by the steering column, if you were to mount it there you would also be able to flush mount the mic by drilling a hole in the column and mounting it from the rear. That would probably be the direction I would go.Aron

I installed a mic in my vibe for bluetooth. Remove A pillar just snaps in. That will give you enough access along the side of the dash to snake the cable down. I took a coat hanger with a slight curve bent in it and taped the plug end of the mic wire to it and carefully fish it down through the hole. Use zip ties to secure it to pretty much anything except the steering column. No need to remove the dash at all. I've done that too, for other things though.

Thanks for the replies! I snaked the cable through the weather stripping next to the pillar and then across to the hinge that attaches the sun visor. Worked quite well
