Maybe it's time for the Canadian plant to produce new Vibes?

The NUMMI, um, I mean the Tesla factory tour

Fascinating look at the manufacturing process, almost with a museum feel to it. I see the tour was in June. Anyone know if they've actually started production yet?

The main page where I got the link is dated 'Oct 6th 2011': Tesla Model S test ride and factory tour Quote, originally posted by kostby »Anyone know if they've actually started production yet?Unfortunately, the article says "Tesla's production facility is still a long way from being ready to roll".

Thanks for the link. I'm glad to hear the plant will reopen. Toyota and Tesla is an interesting partnership. Did they give priority hiring to the former NUMMI employees who used to build Vibes and Matrix's?

Nope, no priority for anything. They're planning to slowly hire about 1,000 - NUMMI had 6,000 at its peak, thats the odds. And with pay starting at about 40% of what we were making, there are many former employees who have moved on and looked elsewhere.

It's unfortunate what has happened there. I took a tour of NUMMI when they were testing the production line for the first Toyota Tacoma Double Cabs and it was pretty impressive.
