http://www.pottstownmercury.co...6.txtQuote »Woman dies in High Street crash Published: Thursday, May 13, 2010POTTSTOWN — A 59-year-old Birdsboro woman died and a Douglassville man was injured after a two-vehicle crash on West High Street Wednesday morning.The woman was identified as Wendy Pethtel, according to Montgomery County Coroner Dr. Walter I. Hofman. He said an autopsy was being formed this morning to determine the cause of death.According to police, Pethtel was driving east on West High Street between Parry Place and Dale Place in the area of the Bright Hope Community when she crossed into the oncoming lane of traffic. Pethtel's Pontiac Vibe struck a Chevrolet Malibu operated by 77-year-old Richard Decker of Douglassville.Decker was transported to Reading Hospital and Medical Center by Goodwill Ambulance.A hospital spokesperson said Decker was in critical condition Wednesday afternoon.Hofman said Pethtel was transported to Pottstown Memorial Medical Center by ambulance where she was pronounced dead at 11:58 a.m.Emergency crews from Pottstown and Norco fire departments responded to the crash. They rescued both Pethtel and Decker from their vehicles.Although there was no indication Pethtel or Decker were speeding when the crash occurred, preliminary investigation indicated Pethtel was not applying the brakes when she crossed into the oncoming lane of traffic and crashed, police said. The speed limit on the road is 40 mph.Police said the Montgomery County Detective unit was notified of the fatal crash, which is standard protocol for fatal crashes.West High Street in both directions was closed in the area of the crash for several hours.The VibeThe MalibuThe Scene
