quote:They do them sequentially?Yeah, AFAIK. Way back in the 60's or 70's they ran out of three-letter, three-number combinations. So... they added a '1' to the front (making a 7-character tag number) and started over again. Ditto with 2, 3, 4, and now they are up to the '5' sequence!!!FWIW, here in Ohio, the new tags have two letters, two numerals and then two more letters. I think it is horrible to read and even worse if you try to read and memorize a car's plate number quickly for whatever reason.

Don't know about anywhere else, but new law in Az says you keep your license plate with you when sell/buy your car. No New Issued licesnce plates unless your buying your first car i guess. *shrugs*

quote:Don't know about anywhere else, but new law in Az says you keep your license plate with you when sell/buy your car.Yeah... that's how it is here in Ohio. The plate stays with the car owner. But in California, I think the plate stays with the car so you will have a growing demand for new plates as the car population grows. They don't go back and reassign numbers from scrapped autos.
