Top speed?

Whats the top speed of the 2009 2.4l Vibe? Im guessing around 110-120, although it says 140, yeah right. Anyone got an answer?

Top speed? In a Vibe? Who cares? It's a Vibe. They are not race cars, nor do they pretend to be. If you wanted a (potential) racing machine, you picked the wrong vehicle.Sorry if that sounds callused, but it seems like a silly question to me.

I Never thought of the top speed of the Vibe, but it can always be made faster if you like. Just dont forget about upgrading the brakes LOL.

...which? (a) vertically downward, off a cliff or (b) horizontally down the freeway?

What??? You havn't tried??? (highly illegal, unless you're in Montana or on a track))The speed limiter will probably kick in aroung the speed rating of the tires. I can only give you the results of the 1.8 5spd.

I don't really think it's that silly of a question... sometimes you just want to know what the car is capable of, even if it isn't meant for racing! When i was younger I found out that my dad's Ford Taurus wagon could do 115 before it started to shake a bit... stupid probably, but I really just wanted to know! I'm tempted to do the same for this car but it's really not worth getting a ticket. I know it can get up to 100 because I did that once on a really long acceleration lane (before slowing down to normal highway speeds when I hit the road) but that didn't feel anywhere near the fastest it could go. I'm going to push it to its limit once, one of these days, just so I know what it can do. And then I'll go back to driving like a normal person.

According to our GPS the max speed we have done is 256mph which is very impressive fro any car and some planes. Some how I think this is an error in the GPS.I am more interested in getting 27MPG in mixed driving, than making the Vibe land speed record.

I was just gonna provide a pic of my gps screen. It keeps a record of my average speed and the fastest speed ive ever gone. It would not be a pic of me doing something dangerous at the time the pic was taken. Its funny but my average speed driven is 25MPH due to my job.

the old 1zz vibe's limit was like 115mph...so I would assume the new ones are close to that.

ya you need a faster car, 150mph is fun edit: I should elaborate, having a car that gets to you 140-150mph fast is fun...specially on the track. After like 80 the 1zz vibe needed like 2 miles to hit 115

Top Speed on the 03-08 1ZZ is 110-115 depending on if your going downhill and if your governor doesnt kick in. The speedometer max on a car does not determine how fast a car goes.I would imagine the current 09+ are similar with a limit in the 110-115 range for the 1.8L.

It wasn't a residential zone. It was on Cicero and there is on spot between 147th and 159th where it drops from 45 to 35 and then after that it goes up to 45 again.

Sounds like a lot of suicidal people on this forum With the uncertain road conditions just about everywhere we drive, one crack, pothole, bump, rumble strip, and our vibes could be airborne & in a ditch. Guess I'm not as adventurous as I used to be I'd easily guess the 2.4 2009 Vibes will hit 130+ and in the case of my manual 5-speed, that would spin the 4-banger at around 5400 RPM. Better have some good oil in the crank

As per a Car & Driver article ...For the 2009 Pontiac Vibe GT:Top speed (drag limited): 125 mph
http://www.caranddriver.com/re...age_2 I think that it should just be left at that ...Personally, I do not suggest that anyone try this (not saying anyone would though). I remember reading somewhere (somebody here on genvibe may have posted a link) about a BMW forum where a kid was asking about the top speed of his car / how to make it go faster. The very next day there was a fatal accident where he and four others died. A very sad and tragic event!
http://www.wftv.com/news/15146845/detail.html http://www.clickorlando.com/ne....html http://www.ocala.com/article/2...37791 If any discussion about personal experiences / stories of unsafe driving and speeding continue, I must also suggest that this thread be locked ...Please everyone, be safe, careful, and responsible. The last thing I would want to see is another tragedy like that, especially involving any GenVibe member ...

Just a little wake-up call folks... and he was said to be doing only 70+/-
http://www.mazdas247.com/forum...=1338Now, I like to drive as spiritedly as the next car guy/gal... accelerate to speed quickly, take corners hard, etc, but driving that much over the speed limit on any public road is just suicide. The person in these pictures was not one of them, I really didn't know him, but I've lost a number of friend's to this kind of behavior. When I was just about 11, maybe 12 yrs old, a neighbor and one of his friend's were killed racing along a back road when they struck a bridge abutment head-on. The speedometer was stuck @ 90+MPH, and the engine/trannie pushed up the floor so that there was hardly any room up front. The steering column crushed the driver's chest and broke his neck on impact. The driver's younger brother was also with them in the car and is crippled to this day. He spend nearly a year in a full body cast recovering from that accident. He was 14 yrs old at the time. His mind has never been the same since, though he sustained no concussion from the accident. It simply traumatized him for life. His older brother Martin, the driver, was 18 and our friend, Bobby Tiger (I remember him as a nice guy even though he was much older than me @ the time) was 17. Both had closed caskets at their funerals.Another: A 1967 GTO slammed into the same bridge a few years later. The engine/transmission launched from the car upon impact and were found still warm the next morning over 1/2 mile away in a field. The rest of the car was unrecognizable as anything but twisted metal. He was said to be going 120+!!Needless to say, Pete Masterson (the driver and only occupant,) died instantly at the ripe old age of 22. He left a young wife behind.Do you REALLY want to die like these people did? Bodies broken and unrecognizable?I love to drive quick, but fast is simply asking for it. And if you cellphone, text or play with your audio system while driving, you should really reconsider if its really that important that it can't wait.

Yeah... I'd never do more than 10mph tops over the speed limit in a populated area, or any speed that would put me significantly faster than high traffic around me... mostly I stay proportional to traffic and keep my eyes out and my distance far from other cars if possible. The only time I'd really be tempted to do anything close to that fast is on a long, empty highway straightaway by myself (not racing). If anyone is around, or if it's not straight....... no way. Not that I ever end up going really fast all that often... if I want some adrenalin I try to deal with crazy merging traffic on the Kennedy Expy... that's enough "intensity" around here!
