Transition for pets previously in a childless home

As the countdown begins, I'm anxious...not just the birthing part (though that's the biggest part) but also how my previous "only children" will make the transition. Mine are seniors, 13 and almost 9, and maybe that's a good thing. I'm not worried about aggression, but of the younger one stressing out and hiding. I'm only worried about him because this is a major change and he is the more sensitive one so I know I'll need to speak softly to him and be patient, and not be all like "DON'T TOUCH THE BABY". "NO, NO, NO" because negatives will stress him out. Parting with either is **NOT** an option, so I thought I'd ask how your pets handled the transition.

judging from your sig you will have 7 weeks left. i would spend the time training the pets. if you know anybody who has a toddler or other young child have them come over and slowly get them used to the smaller variant people.

I would let them interact with her (supervised of course)...Nicole (with Rocky and Clay) on the DBB brought the baby home and set the carrier in the floor and let them sniff, lick, whatever...so they can welcome the baby into the "pack." Now they love him, especially Rocky.I don't think the dogs will scare her either...since she'll be so young that she wouldn't have had anything to develop a fear from. I'd say they will be fine with her as long as you let them introduce themselves to her on their own.

Don't stress over it. A few dog "germs" will not kill a kid. If they did my children would long be dead and my grandchildren (especially my 3 yr old grandson who shares EVERYTHING with my golden) would be dead as well. The dogs will come to accept and love this new creature. If not and you do have biting issues...... bye bye doggie.Dave
