2005 Vibe, 28,000 miles CEL came on the other day, the transmission started shifting hard. Banging into reverse or drive from park, banging into second, third and fourth gear. Went to Auto Zone to have them read the code and the code P2716 rung up. According to their computer, it could be open or short circuit condition, poor electrical connection, or a failed shift solenoid SLT. In reading on this forum I come to find that the problem usally is the PCM. I understand it has an 8 yr. or 80,000 mi warranty. I've made an appoiintment with the stealer to have it checked out. They tell me it's going to cost me $115 to have it checked. I said, "WOW, just to read a code." They said, "Well, Auto Zone does it for free and just give you an idea of the problem. We actually will try and trace the problem to fix it." My question is, "If they find that it is the PCM, would I be required to pay for labor or does the warranty cover that also?" Just trying to prepare myself for anything they try to throw me. I also got copies of the service bulletin in case they try to say they haven't heard of it or can't find it. Your help would be greatly appreciated.

"In theory" If it is the PCM and it's covered under warranty, then you won't (shouldn't) pay a dime!That being said, some dealers arn't as honest as others.... so bring your knowledge and paperwork, records, ect. Good luck!!!

Well took my car in today to have it checked, and wouldn't you know it the CEL went off and the car was not acting up. Took it in anyway cause I had an appointment. The service guy said, that happens alot and the code should still be available. After 10 min. the machanic came back to say he got a P2716 code and had to diagnos problem. After 10 more min. They tell me it's the PCM and will be replaced free of charge, half hour later they were done and also washed and dryed the car for me. No charge for anything. Thanks to everyone on this great forum who suppled info on this subject.
