1st gen Vibe recall for stalling?

Recall coming for '05-'07 Corolla/Matrix/Vibe? Not if Toyota has anything to say about it. It isn't a safety problem if your engine dies while driving - the resulting loss of brake and steering assist is a mere inconvenience. http://www.freep.com/article/2...llingh ... co...ected

I posted this earlier in the Problems & Warranty Issues topic/section. However, the info is over 3 years too late for me! My PCM went out at about 50 miles an hour in rush hour traffic. Awesome.

A new front bumper doesn't translate into a second generation for me. Not a big enough change so I say there were only 2 gens of Vibes.

HmmmYou'd think the defective run is identified somehow with a production run date or number??Or....Is is ALL of them and because of use only SOME of them fail???So, only .08 of us have a bad one? Better odds of having a bad one then getting a winning ticket in most lotteries!!Dave

Tell me that is not a safety issue!. I was lucky that a tow truck came by within a few minutes and got me off that freeway. I called the rental car company and the person there asked me if I had permission to have that car towed. I gave her a very big piece of my mind.

Well, 2005-2008 is actually more like Generation 1.5...The new Vibe 'nose' in 05 also brought Drive By Wire throttle, rear subwoofer as part of Sun & Sound package (nee Moon & Tunes), leather seating, availability of On*Star and satellite radio, 'decontenting' including removal of: roof rack crossbars, two-part arm rest, the 2nd accessory power port in the console, and production of monotone-only models for the first several months. I believe the horsepower rating also dropped a bit, and the AWD and GT models went away in '07.

I read that earlier today... The disgruntled employee doesn't really disturb me, if anything it is amusing... What *does* disturb me is that the dealer is installing that garbage that helps them essentially stalk their customers. What about those who make their fricken payments on time every time, now they have an extra piece of equipment that can fail or be taken advantage of on a moment's notice. Good time to reinforce that you should inspect your new cars carefully for any extras the stealer tacks on... Ok, point taken everybody, change my thread title to indicate '2005-2008' instead of 1st gen already.

It's a good place for them to make a buck and offer a service as well... at inflated prices, of course.

Drive by wire was the major change. The rest was content or cosmetic (bumper). The Vibe you call 1st gen and 2nd gen are interchangeable... even the two front bumpers. And dropping the AWD and GT models in '07? Is that another case for another generation of the Vibe, then? The post GT/AWD gen 3 Vibe?1st gen '03-'08, 2nd gen '09-'10? That would be my guess.

I don't remember the tow being overly expensive - just took me to a nearby gas station off the expressway. I got a taxi to the airport to catch my plane. The rental company had to go get the car. They forgave my entire rental bill and reimbursed me for the tow (but not the traxi fare).

My Vibe is getting pretty mixed up.It's Toyota based, so it really doesn't know whether it wants to run away unexpectedly, stall, have a steering problem, not be able to brake or go extinct.

Mine happened around 25,000 miles ago, the car started "jerking" into gear, and the check engine light came on.

Actually, there were changes to the "drive-by-wire" throttle system starting with the 05 standard models, the so it wouldnt suprise me if computer manufacurers changed as well.

We had very few problems, we had nothing but praise and we used to brag that we got a TOYOTA at a cut rate PONTIAC price!!What has happened to us?I still like my Vibe a LOT. It still runs 100 % everyday, day after day after day after day.It still gives me great gas mileageIt is still a Good Looking design.Ok, a few problems may be headed our way. For giggles, research Honda's first car in the USA back in the early 70;s and read about what a complete piece of crap it was, yet they survived. In a similar fashion, we will all survive and hopefully those who aren't defecting will fall in love again with their dependable affordable transportation.dave
