same vs. new window

I use Netscape 7 for Genvibe, and I also use the link for active topics a lot. Sometimes when I follow a link to a thread from that page, the selected thread is displayed in the same browser window. Other times, it will pop up a new window to display the thread. It's not really a problem either way, but I've been watching it and can't figure out what makes some show up in the same window, while others spawn a new window. Out of curiosity alone, is there some logic/predictability that determines if a new window will be launched?

I noticed the same thing with IE.

If you click on the title of the thread (the words) it pops up in a new window. If you click on one of the page numbers (in the parenthesis after the title), it pops up in the same window. It has nothing to do with the browser you are using.

Thanks Scott, I should have been able to figure that out for myself
