I have decided to forego the laptop, keep my desktop, for a while, and get a netbook instead. I wll also need mobile broadband service. I found the HP Mini 311–1037NR Netbook at Verizon and it seems to be a nice unit at a great price. I can get it for $199 (tax deductible). 5GB mobile broadband service would be $60/mo. (tax deductible) I would upgrade the ram to 3GB (max allowable) and also pick-up an external cd/dvd drive. it turns out this little guy will be more powerful than my desktop...lol.Here are the specs:It’ s ultra– portable. Yup, I'd get a bluetooth mouse.

Yow, a 11.something inch screen makes it a netbook? I guess it is when people are hauling around 500 pound 27" widescreen laptops or whatever these days. If it were just $199 and you owned it I'd be all over that. Too bad I'm sure you have to get locked into a contract for that.

I like the fact that it has a large screen and better graphics. I don't mind having a contract with Verizon. That is who my cell phone is with also and have been extremely happy with them. I also need to upgrade my cell phone, so I'm going to see if I can swing a deal for a free multmedia or smartphone as well. I'm going to test out the HP mini in person at the Verizon store either tomorrow or Saturday. I'll post in this thread from there if I can and let you know how it is.
