Yes, manufacturers have had their share of problems, but these problems are 25 years old and older. Problems that a company like Toyota should have used as a lesson of what not to do. So I would say, its 2010 and Toyota's problems make these problems look like rookie mistakes.

I liked my 73 Vega GT. If some a-hole didn't crash into it and total it, I'd probably still have it.

What self professed "expert" makes these inane lists!?!Were some of these cars trouble prone? For sure but to run them all down as he does in such a cocky way is just annoying. Some of these cars I've had and didn't have the experiences with them that are made to sound like every one had.Several, I'd love to have again.Bet the author isn't even old enough to have even seen let alone driven some of these!!My 2x........Dumb list. I had a 1974 Chevy Vega. (mothers car) It was good except it started early on in oil consumption. We got the alum. engine rebuilt with steel sleeves around the cylinders. That was great. However , the car had a few accidents. First hit in the rear when it was parked. Second, when another car just drove into it at a stop light. My second car was the Olds Starfire 1979. (A take off of the Vega.) Again, I had to deal with oil consumption. (Buick V6 engine). Before the Vibe was my Dodge Daytona 1988 (for 20+ years). Again my main problem was oil consumption, but ran well. Wish I had kept it. I always used Mobil I oil in the Starfire and the Daytona.

What a faulty list! There is no Dodge Aspen/Plymouth Volare - well known as the most recalled vehicle ever.I'd love to have a one of the first Vegas, and do the 350 conversion.

Some of the cars on the list I actually liked. I thought the Pinto was a cool looking car as opposed to the AMC Gremlin.My father had a Covair that was a total lemon & had major oil consumption issues. My uncle had a Vega wagon which I thought was cool but had major reliability problems.I thought it was a interesting read. I can agree with writer on those 2 cars. American carmakers entered a market they had no experience in, so they made some crappy cars along the way thats all LOL.

Man, I think the Plymouth Prowler is one of the coolest looking production cars ever made. Would love to have one.

After getting married, my wife and I shopped for a second car. We test drove a Pinto wagon, an Audi Fox wagon, a Vega Camback wagon and the first Honda Civic CVCC. I really wanted the Vega Camback... but we went with the Honda Civic hatch, because by the time we had made our decision a couple of weeks later, the Vega had already rusted away in the showroom. The early aluminum engines were works in progress and had a lot of durability problems. Still liked the Vega Camback best.

I bought a block from a junkyard that had steel sleeves installed. No more oil problems. My Vega was never fast, but the GT had sway bars front and rear and coil spring suspension all around. It handled really well for its day and was a blast to drive on curvy country roads of Western Pa.

I really liked the way the Vega drove. What moved us to take a chance with the upstart Honda was price and the way the engine and manual trans felt. The Vega engine was not nearly as smooth and the manual was notchy, to say the least. I really liked the Vega 3 door wagon looks and I remember the interior was pretty cool for a car of that vintage. Exterior looked best in white, to me.

The worst thing about the Vega was the GIANT hump in the center, way our of proportion to the rest of the car. A minor problem for young dating teen agers!Put a lot of miles on that car, no problems of any major note. Purchased new, off the lot.Dave

Purchased new, off the lot.Don't think that GeeM quite had small car design down to any kind of science at that time... and it actually has taken them a long time to get into it. But, they did have to run that old drive shaft somewhere. Probably prevented a lot of "accidents" back then, too!
