I have the generals on my ride, they are very good, handle flawlessly on dry, they do tend to slid a tiny bit IMO on the sharp weaversville road curves though when the road is wet.Noise quality isn't too bad.

Of the two, I think the Generals would be my choice also.Though I'm not sure of the model(s) and never paid much attention to Toyos, the ones that I know of that come as OE on many cars (e.g. Mazdas) are not that highly thought of after a time. Complaints that I have heard about are quick tread wear, slow steering response and road noise as they get older, but mostly that they don't hold up well.

I would go with the General's. I've had Toyo's on my car, and my wife's car currently has Toyo's. The General's I'm currently running are not as grippy on dry roads, but on anything else they are 10 times better.

this needed to be a poll thread go with the Generals -- everyone has good things to say about them. I'm planning on picking a set up once my Kumhos die.

(trying to keep it under $130 per tire)According to tirerack.com the General Exclaim UHP is a summer tire not an all-season tire. I'm using the General Altimax HP, which is an all-season tire.

http://www.tirerack.com/tires/...r=2wd i was confused with that too -- on tirerack though you can't get the HP in the size he's looking for 225/40/18, only the UHP gets that high. imho i wouldn't be driving the uhp in cooler temps (fall).

'Glad you asked. Look into the Continental ExtremeContact DWS series. I put some on the wife's Vibe a few weeks ago and am VASTLY impressed with them. Best tires (so far) I have purchased in AT LEAST a few years. It was raining hard when I had them installed, but no slippage or hydroplaning on the ride home BEFORE they were broken in as they are now. They've been GREAT and even my wife, who is very picky about her tires, hasn't complained.

The total was for 4 installed and ready to roll was $471.02. I also got a 4-wheel alignment at the same time for another $65.00. It was well worth it too. Out the door all inclusive they were $135.625 ea. including the alignment. In your size however...
http://www.tirerack.com/tires/...DWSXLI'd still guess they were well worth the money.

All the tires you're considering are very good. I went with a Kumho Ecsta Platinum LX ( would not choose a name like that) 225/50 17 (wish I had gone 225/55 17). I did a lot of research, really keying in on 1.) wet performance and 2.) quiet. The "Platinum" delivered. Seriously quiet. TireRack deems it an all-seaon tire. I deem it a 3 season. Marginal on snow, so I run a full snow tire this time of year. Anyway, the ride's fairly soft, even at 40 psi. but it tracks very well. I noticed that it's on back order at TireRack and getting more expensive $114 !!! Just another tire to add to the pile of tough decisions.
