Good idea. That would give it a mean look I suppose.

I had my grille painted matte black for a while (I know it isn't the same as yours) and I loved the way it looked. I went back because the paint was chipping so bad it looked terrible.

Ah, well if I decide to do this, hopefully the paint'll stick better than it would on plastic.

Try finding a powder coat shop to paint it matte black. The coating will be rock hard chip proof.

hey psycho, actually when you bought your vibe, did it already have the billet grill? if i'm not mistaken, that's sitting on top of the the stock grill with zip ties. you might just have to take the billet grill off and you'll have a black grill already.

You're right. That is how the grille is in there. I bought it a year after I got the car tho. I just think the billet would look better than the stock painted black. And like lovemyraffe said....the paint would chip off plastic after a few good rocks hit it

I think black in gloss, satin or matte would look great on the light-colored car. I second the idea of powder coating if you can afford it. If not, you can re-spray it every year without much trouble.

This is coming from a 2006 Abyss owner (outward grilles), however...I went with gloss black. 3 coats of Krylon for Plastic, and then 2 coats of clear. I was purposely trying to mirror the look of the Abyss paint and factory clear coat. Man, what a difference. It looks seamless from the hood to the grille. And it's amazing how under-whelming that gray plastic was before I did this.So +1 for gloss, and then clear coat, only because of bugs and junk. They would be difficult to clean if you went with flat, IMO. Maybe with your white paint and inverted grilles, you only go with the gloss paint and no clear, so it's not TOO glossy? I have had the grilles painted for about 10 months, and taken it through the manual car wash/pressure gun washes this winter, with no degradation/chipping. We'll see what this spring brings!

Gloss. You'll hit some bugs and stuff, too, so gloss will clean up better. Find the hardest paint and top coat. Let us see what you do!
