The Weatherman and my issue with him

I'm sure others will agree or add to this. But one of my biggest pet peaves aside from them always being wrong. Is when they talk about weather happening somewhere else or about snow we are going to get and then play it down. Saying things like, "we are lucky and it should pass us by with no issue." or "Thank goodness we won't see much accumulation."Boring! I would love to see just once a guy get on there and say, "8-14" WOOHOO!! Get your sleds, your snowman making gear, and go play outside Connecticut, you deserve a day off." But nope, they talk about the headache of travel and the woes of waiting for the plow to come. It's bogus cause I love snow, I'm 28 and have a career job. But I won't say no to having to stay in cause it's bad out.

I have the opposite problem... I'm getting sick of Chicago having a heart attack about potential snow (being sensationalized on tv weather forecasts) and then us only getting maybe 5-6 inches. The east coast is getting hammered right now, and we're being a bunch of pansies over a few inches of snow. It's kind of sad and shameful.

Ah, NYC is about the same with snow, they make it sound like the sky is falling and civilization as we know it will end! The hassle of it, the problems etc. They do this be it 1" coming or 3 feet coming. They get everyone's panties all in a wad and they panic running out to the store to get yet more food!!Silliness!!! I agree, I LOVE snow!! WhoooHoooo!! we're gonna get 12 - 18 in the next 24 hours! Enjoy!!!!!!!!!!!!!Dave

around DC, nothing happened other than snow, at least that's the impression I get watching the news. I'm tired of hearing about snowmageddon, snopocalypse, snolapalooza, I've got snoverload.

One of our local morning show anchorpeople called today's snow "The Snotorious B.I.G."...which I thought was the funniest one I'd heard.

Here, they are ALWAYS making it seem much worse than it actually is. Whether is be snow, or severe weather.

Usually if we have a good snow storm (which I haven't seen a really good one here for a few years) I will take the day off to enjoy it.

Here's the report from WV. The cold front was north last night so we got 3/4" of rain that froze at 10 PM, and we've had 4 inches since. Nasty road conditions! I do enjoy it. This winter is old skool....

I gotta say, I'm loving my sun and zero degree weather. So unlike Ottawa Canada winters. Usually oodles of snow and -20 C give or take 5 degrees.

Weatherman Tex Antoine tried this in NYC. Ultimately, his antics got him thrown off of the air. This comment was one level BELOW our other famous NY alumnus, Howard Stern (One day after the Air Florida crash into the 14th Street Bridge, Howard Stern pretended to call Air Florida during his radio show on WWDC-FM and asked if the 14th Street Bridge would be a "permanent stop". )In 1966, Tex Antoine moved from WNBC to WABC-TV. On November 24, 1976, his weather spot came up just after a report of a violent rape of a five year old girl. Tex thereupon quipped: "With rape so predominant in the news lately, it is well to remember the words of Confucius: 'If rape is inevitable, lie back and enjoy it.'"While I join you in your desire for some personality on the local news, you often see how "stupid" these on-air robots get when given too much time to think. My biggest pet peeve regarding the weathermen is that they often simply read the wire from Accuweather out of Penn State instead of predicting their own weather forcast. They also waste our time giving us temperatures from throughout the region. WHO CARES that it is 35 degrees at 17 reporting stations, and 36 at two others. As Warner Wolfe used to say: "Give me a break!!!"

Meanwhile, here in Montreal we don't have any snowfall (same in Vancouver). Grass is coming up, I used my snow blower only twice in December...I used to have an 8-foot snowbank next to my driveway 2 years ago lol now I don't know if it's even a foot tall...
