Banging into gear

My wifes 05 Vibe started acting up lately. It started to shift between gears really hard (its an automatic). The check engine idiot light came on shortly after, and its still doing it. I read on this forum about a similiar problem, solenoid/computer reset issue. im gonna go to O'-O'-O'-O'Reillys and find out whats up. Any suggestions?

Mine's doing the same thing, but I need to get the tranny fluid replaced before I start thinking something is wrong. My CEL was already on prior to it though for an O2 sensor. Prob need to get it re-read to ensure another code hasn't popped up yet either.

You could always run down to Autozone or wherever and get the code read. What mileage are you up to? Have you ever had the transmission serviced? Different car completely, but I had a Jetta automatic that shifted hard for a while and changing what turned out to be low and old tranny fluid helped immensely. Good luck, and welcome to Genvibe. Let us know how it turns out.

Definitely get in and have the code checked. It is much easier for us to diagnose it if we know what the code is.

I just checked the tranny fluid. The car hasn't been running yet today, but the level on the dip**** shows it up near hot as opposed to cool where it should check. I wonder if the garage we just got it back from replaced the fluid.

Here ya go:2716 - Pressure control Solenoid problemhttp://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=35022If you read through that, it goes into some detail about a service bulletin issued related to hard shifting and the PCM. If you run that code into the Search function you'll come up with a few other related threads but that should point you in the right direction. Here's another one:

If you guys can believe this, the CEL went out and it's shifting fine at the moment. In the past few days, its happened once, but for the most part its been fine. Called Toyota and GM (it is a recall issue) about it, and they said cant fix it unless the CEL is on. Now what?

The only thing you can do. Wait until it comes back on.

The light came back on, wifey took it to a dealership, they verified the problem (PCM Module), and actually fixed it! It was a recall issue, so it didn't cost a dime. There IS still some justice in this crazy world. Thanx for all your help fellow Vibers, c ya around-
