Defective Accelerator Pedal - 2009-10

It looks like GM will fix the issue for our Vibe's Toyota accelerator pedal.
http://media.gm.ca/content/med...cVibeIn this video news clip the guy says "the spring will also get a little bit stiffer" which for me will be welcome because its way too soft for my liking, combined with such a quiet engine I frequently over-rev it when starting off and letting the clutch out, especially if the stereo is on

So it's gonna be a 10 cent piece of aluminum or steel... we'll see.+2 on a stiffer spring though. I'm hoping that somehow out of all of this we get a new engine chip that cures the rev hang.Still waiting and wondering when the recall notice will come.

So this fix is supposed to take half an hour.... Must be a lot of paperwork because even with removal and installation I can't see this taking more then 10 minute! Maybe it's a union thing....I wonder if that nickel-sized spacer allows for full travel of the pedal? (Hmmm... I have a nickel in my pocket and just saw the how-to....)

Since when does Toyota embrace unions anyway? As none of their other North American facilities have a union, it's obvious the only reason NUMMI was a union shop was because of GM's involvement. And I highly doubt their dealers have unions.30 minutes for 10 minutes of work sounds reasonable given how dealerships operate... I've had the misfortune of experiencing many visits to dealers in my lifetime, and it's rare that they have the car pulled into the service bay by 15 minutes. What they're doing during that time, I have no clue.

Unions got nothing to do with it. Realistically they have to get the car back there, install it, test it, do the paperwork. Of course whether or not the dealer personnel actually do test it or not is a separate issue, but I'm sure the procedure from the factory includes a test. This thing is so sensitive right now and no matter what they will have lawyers all over them, so I'm sure Toyota is being as careful as possible.My experience with any dealer of any brand I've owned, (Ford, Chevy, Mazda, Toyota, Lexus, Nissan, Pontiac), no matter how minor the issue I have to leave the car all day.

Personally, I am going to wait until the rush is over - after they have learned how to do it right, and after they are sure this is going to work.

FWIW, the "vacuum brake" recall fix was stated as 0.9 hr on the GM documentation, but my car was there for just under two hours....I think SOME of that time was simply letting the hot engine COOL down so the technician could safely work on it.

go this in our GM newsletter today:Repair parts for the sticking accelerator pedal condition in the 2009-2010 Pontiac Vibe will begin being shipped to General Motors dealers this week (Feb. 8). Letters to Vibe customers will be mailed Feb. 16 with instructions to contact their Pontiac dealer after Feb. 22 to have a precision-cut steel reinforcement bar inserted into the accelerator pedal assembly. The installation will take about 30 minutes but customers may need to leave their vehicles with dealers for a longer period of time.Customers will receive a second letter when a remedy is available for the recall covering floor mat interference with the accelerator pedal. For now, customers are urged to take out any removable floor mat and place it in the trunk of the Vibe and not replace it with any other mat. Customers who choose against taking out the removable floor mat are encouraged to check the operation of the accelerator, brake and, if applicable, the clutch pedals to assure the floor mat does not interfere with them.

Yeah well, it's a small item with a simple fix. And with the lethargy that the crew at my dealership moves, you'll forgive me for asking for a little energy and quickness in fixing my car!Patience with the dealership, not something I'm good at!

I got my recall notice last Friday. I'm in no hurry though (though, if the throttle sticks wide open, I will be ).
