Yesterday I was passed by a mini-van sporting Hawaii license plates. I never thought I would see that in Canada. What's the deal on residency & plates -- do you have to live in another state for a minimum time before you can register there? Or did they transport the van across the pond?Just curious.

dont know. but heres an idea. there is an army base in hawaii, the army pays for vehicle transportation across the ocean when moving. maybe they moved and went on vaction before getting new plates.

Yeah I was walking to work one morning and I also saw Hawaiian plates. This was a few years ago though. I thought it was pretty cool to see those around here.

I'm stunned to see Hawaii plates even here...

Or did they transport the van across the pond?Around here, they give you 60 days (I believe) to switch your plate over... I moved to IN from KY several years back and didn't bother to change my plate over for about 6 months (car was still registered at my folks' address.) The lady at the license branch wasn't too happy about that. KY for instance, gives you like 12 days to change your plate after you move into the state... So I don't think there's a limitation on the length of time you must live somewhere before you can get your car registered. If there is, it probably isn't common... At least I think. I see cars from HI around here occasionally...
