"Fan" knob has no effect

Hello,As of this morning, the fan knob on our '04 Vibe does nothing when turned from off through all settings. The A/C light does come on when I turn the knob from off and press the A/C button so the knob doesn't readily appear to be the culprit. What is the likely issue that will not afford any fan at all at any position? Bad fan motor? Thank you for the help.- Dave

Could be the switch, blower motor or blower resistor. Do a search for Blower and it should bring up a bunch of threads for you to take a look at that might help you track down the issue. Let us know what it is.http://forums.genvibe.com/zerosearch

I don't think it would be the blower motor resistor if the highest setting doesn't work either so it could be the blower motor itself.

Online many people had one a speed or two or nothing. Come to find out the harness is melted and broken so it doesnt really mean it cant be the resistor. But I would agree it could be that and something else. Im currently now having to replace the resistor, harness and blower. But the resistor is the cheapest so try that first.

Good point--didn't think about the possibility of the harness being melted.Quote, originally posted by northvibe » But the resistor is the cheapest so try that first.Doubly good point! Dave--just make sure you shop around for prices at the car parts stores (Autozone, etc...) cause it will be a lot cheaper than the dealership.

There are LARGE dollar differences between every part between, NAPA, advanced auto, orielys and check etc. Some parts I just bought were $3 difference some 30. I JUST got done installing a new blower motor (cheapest at orielys, $99), the harness had to be at dodge, but FUNNY thing was the resistor was cheapest at dodge too! 8 at dodge, 13 at napa and 25 at advanced. But with all new parts and new harness spliced in (this is a very common issue on the durango/dakota) its fully functional!

It's been like that for a year and he's forgotten how nice it is to have all the settings work.

Thank you all for the tips and pointers. Driving the Vibe last night, and having the fan switch set to High, air began to blow from the system once again. Very odd. It worked fine again today. I figure I'll see if there are any corroded or loose connections next time it stops working before changing out any parts. - Dave
