One nut...

Bored this afternoon, so I decided to head to the junkyard with my brother and see if there was anything interesting. No toyotas of interest but there was one of those dodge minivans with the stock mitsu turbo. Van was just set out, I'm assuming on the 30th. Thing looked babied- no oil leaks, only 130000km on the clock, turbo looked pristine. Cut to 3 hours later- had a lovely time disconnecting it all, had to rip off the whole head to get it into a workable position. and the cat was cut off in just the wrong spot (my junkyard cuts them off before they see the general public) so the remnants of the pipe between the turbo and the cat were just barely holding her in.The yard was closing and when we had it to the very last nut holding the exhaust side to the head (exhaust mani is integrated into the head)--essentially the last thing stopping us from walking away with a turbo- they got on the pager talking pretty much directly to us: "Attention ALL Customers. The yard is now closed. The registers are shut down. Please pack up and leave immediately."And I think I might work tomorrow. If I do, the hours I work are exactly the hours they're open. So essentially I just got somebody a really easily pulled turbo. 'cause you know the first guy that walks past the van who knows what it is will walk out with the stupid thing.Fun way to spend an afternoon though...

Time to get a friend to go when they open and pick it up for you!

Found out I don't work. went this morning as soon as they open and finished pulling it. just cleaning it with scotch-brite now. I'm thinking of putting it on an escort GT engine in a festiva.

I love a good feel good story. I used to troll around the yards in my area all the time, picking dis and dat for my old Monte Carlo 1984.
