I thought I'd clean the battery terminals and cables on the Vibe today when I discovered that the positive cable seems to be fused to the post. After loosening the nut on the cable, you can't wiggle the cable on the post even a tiny amount. I didn't feel like having to go find a new battery and cable on new year's eve if I broke something so i tightened it back up. The stock battery crapped out 4 years ago or something, and the terminals were extremely corroded... Cleaned them up the best I could before installing it on the new battery. It's nowhere near as corroded now as it was then so I'm not sure why I can't get the cable off. It almost seems like when you loosen the nut it isn't relieving any tension on the terminal. *shrug*Any ideas how to get it loosened up? It's going to have to be removed at some point but I'll probably just leave it until it needs a new battery...

You could try to completely take the nut off and see if you can pry the mount apart.

could you take a photo showing the battery? My first suggestion would be to drench it in a mix of baking soda and water. But before suggesting that I would like to see the condition of the battery and cable.

One of the battery cables on our 2004 needs to be replaced, along with a lot of things; poor thing.

I had a whole post on what I did to replace mine, it was so bad it was missing pieces... lol.. Maybe you can find it?You likely need a new battery.... It sounds like it's leaking... which is usually why the terminals start to corrode..
