Has anyone purchased this, and what do you think of it. I'd like to hear from everyone, but especally anyone who has used it in Canada. Thanks in advance
it's ok as long as you don't put a cell phone around it, my cell and my girlfriend's cell tend to throw it off pretty bad, the map CD I have is 2 years old though, and when I get to the big Interchange here in town it gets lost cause they finished rebuilding it last year.

I love it, very helpful on trips, and just fun to use in general. Only had a problem one time, it told me to turn into some guy's driveway. But besides that, it has been perfect.
No, dead serious. I was up in Butler, PA and was following the Nav to get to the highway, well i passed a road that i thought was right because the Nav told me the turnoff was futher up the road. Took me into a guy's driveway, so i turned around and went back to the road i thought it was and it was correct.
From the factory, the moon roof option includes a 200w amplifier, which they put under the front passenger seat. The DVD nav system from the factory also comes with a 6-disc CD changer, which they put.... you guessed it.... under the front passenger seat! This is why these two option packages cannot be factory ordered on the same car. If you can find a nav unit to buy (I've seen them on eBay) and will give up either the amplifier or the CD changer, you could have both.

I used the system from SC to Ottawa and found it useful in the city, but the rest of the time it was a problem. The data is so old that many places it is pretty useless. In South Carolina there is very little data and few roads for navigationquote:Has anyone purchased this, and what do you think of it. Calling and complaining doessn't help. One person says there is no such thing and the next says it will be $500 or $600. It should be no more than five or ten dollars and we should have had one by now.quote:Would call and complain if they want to charge you. Suppose to be up to date.
It is very easy. None of the other navigation systems charge much more than that for the whole program. Once you update the data base the cost of distributing the data is very low. My computer makers are always sending free updates.
It depends on what Garmin system that you have. I used the Garmin Etrex for my trip to Newfoundland and Labrador. I hoped that the system in the Vibe would be much better when I went to Ottowa and then flew north to Iqaluit. I have been all the way from southern Florida to Maine with the Vibe. The system doesn't come close to DeLorme that I run in the notebook. The routing algorithm is horrible. Make a wrong turn and it will give you a new route that might be anywhere from ten to thirty miles longer, and might bring you back to the same place. Particularly noticible where there is little access to an interstate highway.

Obviously, the makers of the map database are recovering (and deserve to recover) the cost of the updates, and not just the incremental cost of producing, packaging and shipping media. Having everything on one DVD-ROM makes the cost of an update a HUGE bite! I think I might trade one-disk convenience for the economy of being able to just update or subscribe to the geographical regions I want to use.
