A/C Question

I've had my Vibe for around 5 months now and I don't think I have ever turned off the A/C. Is it okay to always leave it on constantly? Even during the winter? I turned it off earlier and every window instantly fogged up. Turned it back on and it disappeared.

Even though the AC light doesn't come on, the AC runs automatically when you have the defrost on. AC cools but also dries the air - very effective in stopping window fogging. It's okay to leave it on constantly, but unless you need it for cooling or defrosting, why run your compressor (and lower your mpg, slow your acceleration, wear your components, etc)?

Never had a problem with the car fogging up. It gets a little around the edges of the windshield but that's about it.

You might get a musty smell from the vents. Mold, mildew & bacteria can start growing. They make kits to get rid of the smell & kill growth

A couple of things.1) make sure recirculation is off. Moisture builds up inside if you leave it on recirc all the time.2) make sure your glass is clean. Plastic and vinyl components (your entire dash and much of the sides and back of your Vibe's interior and other bits) de-gas a lot. The vapor deposits a film on your glass, and voila, you have zee fogging up of zee glass. Clean your glass with a good cleaner... I like Invisible Glass. Doesn't streak. There are other great glass cleaning products on the market. This might help or allow you turn off your A/C for a while this winter. Let us know if this helps of works out.
