The best combined city/hwy is about 10L/100Km. Is this about right?

Full throttle accellerations, extended idling, constant 0-100-0km/h and such will get you crappy mileage like that. My (mostly city) mileage is about 7.5L/100km. Buy a scangauge or other mpg notifier to help get a little better mileage.I use a vacuum gauge.

Have never heard of either of those devices, what do they do and how do you use them?

Scanguage: http://www.scangauge.com/A vacuum gauge measures the amount of vacuum in the intake manifold (when hooked up correctly). It literally shows how far you press the gas pedal. When the engine idles it reads about 20-22, punch the throttle and it drops to 0.

...I'm averaging 35+ mpg at 65 mph on highway going daily to/from work (26 miles each way); 2009 1.8L base with 4 speed automatic, best milage has been 37 mpg, worst 28 mpg when wife forgot and left tranny in 3rd (instead of "D" = 4th).

By using cruise control, at 80-100KM's per hour, I got 36 miles per Imperial Gallon or 180 KM's from 14 litres of gas. Cannot think I will better that, car has 30,000 KM's on it, with new tires and just had oil change. Nothing left to change...It gets confusing when comparing litres/km's, imperial and US gallons! Still great gas mileage. I got about 29 mpg in the city....

Are you running it in 3rd? OD button pressed? That mileage seems really low for the speeds and driving you described.Quote, originally posted by Old Tele man » best milage has been 37 mpg, worst 28 mpg when wife forgot and left tranny in 3rd (instead of "D" = 4th).

Actually I think I might have been in 3rd. some times. They should have 3 under Drive, not right beside it!

Overall, the MPG figures mentioned are pretty good. I targeted 40 mpg (U.S.) and was able to get there a couple of times in late summer/early fall with my 5 speed. I always go to the same pump at our local station... set the pump handlle on slow fill... and shut it down at the automatic cut off. That should top the tank close to the same level each time. My two best tanks... 39.7 and 40.0 mpg. My average is still holding around 36-37. Worst tank was my first, only 35.1 mpg. Now that it's getting colder, I'm sure mpgs will fall off. Hopefully not too far. Really glad I don't have to drive in a congested city. The only way to get good mileage in stop and go town traffic... a Prius and a super gentle foot.

...that's in 4th ("D" or over-drive lockup), not in 3rd....FWIW, 35-37 mpg is 13-19% higher than the "best" EPA highway numbers!

I don't use my vibe much, it's a third vehicle. I have 2010 1.8 auto. Just broke 2000 miles and I've had it since August. Put the first 1500 miles on in the first few weeks. Anyway, I was only getting around 30MPGs combined. I then got a dash light telling me I had low tire pressure.....~20psi all around. Filled them up to 32-33 psi a few weeks ago and filled up the tank....Haven't checked yet, but I think my MPGs are getting better based on the miles on this tank and the fuel guage....or maybe I'm just imagining it all. It'll be a while before I need fuel again.....Just sitting in the garage I think the tank evaporates more fuel than I use. I'm going for the lowest Mileage 2010 award....!!!! Hey...maybe we should have a 'low' mileage award....I might actually win something.....

The best I've received on one tank of gas is about 560km. That's stretching it to the limits I think. Has anyone received better?

Mileage that I have got recently

The best mileage I have had, mostly highway and using the cruise control, is about 37 mpg. (Imperial). In the city it is about 28. Not bad, a lot better than my Montana ever got. Nothing else I can do to increase mileage, maybe it will be better in summer. It can certainly change when you stop the gas going in. It might take a couple more litres after it clicks off, so sometimes hard to judge how much you used
