I love it, the guy is trying to blame the driver of the car that got hit. No reason in the world any police car should be doing 94 miles and hour on a road like that without at least lights. And it's not fair to the teens to be able to know just how fast the cop car was going, easy mistake. I agree with Vibe_Dude, go get him.

Personally, I hope the victims families take the cop, and the department to the cleaners! An outrageous settlement in the tens of millions should be enough to get a little discipline and common sense (like don't do 94 in a 50 zone) into that deparment! Give the cop 10 years in a cell and let his cellmate teach him the meaning of the term "shafted!"

It was definitely a stupid call. The cop that videotaped it was from the neighboring town. That is Route 1 Boston Post Road which is a 4 lane (two on each side) road with LOADS of stores and side streets and lights along the way. Route 1 actually goes from Maine to Florida but this stretch is pretty busy in the day and desolate at night. It would not be hard to get up to that speed at 2am, and going so fast it would be almost impossible to discern a car from parking lot lights and judge distances. Speed limit is 40mph on the road, most people do between 40-50 TOPS. I

If I was the one driving I would be charged with manslaughter. It's great that police are above this though. You know... being simply citizens like us but somehow above us all.

I don't think the department should be sued because he was not acting in the line of duty. Even though he was in a police car, I'm sure speeding without cause is outside department policy. That would only hurt the tax payer. The officer, however, should be sued for all he's worth.

Of course. I don't think it's the department's fault at all. I do however, think the officer should be charged with the deaths. If I was driving like that, and killed two people, I can guarantee you I would be charged.

Municipalities do have some special protections against litigation although less than they used to. If an employee is driving a vehicle owned by the employer, the employer is responsible for the employee's actions. That is what liability insurance is for. The Officer had an arrest warrant issued for two counts of manslaughter and 1 of wreckless driving. Also they issued an arrest warrant for the kid who had the party they were at.http://www.wtnh.com

Wait wait wait... the Crown Vic can only do 94 mph? huh? meaning the officer would have gone faster if the car allowed... Can't wait to see the toxicology report... It's odd that (let's say) North would have a flashing yellow and South a flashing red... Never seen that before.

On the Post Road Rte. 1 between certain hours late night and early morning the lights flash yellow for the main drag and red on side roads. This illiminates having to slow down when there is no traffic around. But the speed limit still is 40 and most people do 40-50. The turn lanes on the post road flash red during this time. So if you are in a turn lane, the light flashes red for the turn arrow or light. The kids were in a turn lane.
