2009 2.4l Rear wheel noise

I have 31,000 miles on my 09 Vibe and it's making a squeaking noise from the right rear wheel at low speeds. I had the dealer look at it at 28,000 miles and they could not find anything wrong. Its intermittent and loud enough to hear with the windows up and the radio on. When I apply the Hand brake while driving to try and diagnose the problem the noise stops.Any thoughts?

rear brakes.. possibly dragging maybe.. Pretty obvious if you pull the EB and the noise goes away..

Do you have wheel covers? If they come loose they can squeak like mice in a blender!

Most likely dragging brake. The calipers on these have the parking brake mechanism built in. I'm not sure how the adjustment works - but it may be worth giving the handbrake a few firm applications (not with the car moving) to see if it frees anything up or loosens.Mine occasionally makes noise until I first apply the brakes - especially if it's been raining or damp. Fortunately it hasn't lasted more than a block or so.Try feeling the wheel after a highway run to see if it's any warmer than the others. If it is, you can bet the brake isn't releasing fully. It could also be a slight bit of rust at the edge of the rotor contacting the pads. If so, the dealer should have been able to take care of that with a little sandpaper. Sometimes the simple things are overlooked though.Keep us posted...John

Hey, it seemed like a good expression to use for loud squeaking...

Do you have an update on this issue? I'm experiencing the same thing with my 2009 2.4L at 38k (but have had this noise for the last 10k or so). Dealers can't find anything wrong, and since it's intermittent, they usually can't hear it. Thanks.

Have you tried rotating the tires?
