What does the "R" stand for?

Noob question, as noted above. My mechanic has a set pretty much exactly as described in the ad below (total coincidence) a few blocks away from me, and offered me them for $60/each. I'm going to look at them on my way home from work.http://www.adoos.ca/post/32955...d_320My old Michelin winter tires are 205/55/"R"16, but the ones I'm going to look at have no "R" there. What does that stand for here? Thanks, Evan

R means Radial, as opposed to bias ply

thx for the post. quick google of your response led me to:http://www.michelinag.com/agx/...l.jsph ... tiresmakes bias radial seem like a much weaker option for sure.
