Now I just installed my Cosmo CAI and had my MagnaFlow CatBack system professionally installed.I have noticed that when I get our of the car after driving for about 15-20 minutes that there is a smell of almost metal that has just been cut and a hint of antifreeze.I just had the exhaust put on last thursday (10/22/2009) and Installed the CAI myself on friday (10/23/2009). I have read that I may have blown a header. What should I do??

I'd be inclined to think that it is the new exhaust burning off the various protective coatings. When I replaced the catalytic converter in mine, it stank a bit for a little while when it got hot. I drive mostly hour+ sessions, gets the exhaust fully hot, the new exhaust smell didn't last too long.If you think its the head gasket, then be sure to pay attention to coolant ond oil levels, look for changes. If the fluids stay constant (or consistent with prior experience) then give the exhaust some time to become un-new.

That's what I am thinking. I can't smell ANYTHING in the engine compartment.I changed my oil and checked it for antifreeze and it was clean. I am not getting white puffs of vapor out of the exhaust. My friend who helps me with my car issues said that just drive it as long as the check engine light doesn't come on. Because if the computer isn't reporting any error then it may not be a big deal.I will keep you guys posted!

Did your exhaust system require any cutting/wielding? Because I know on my truck, they did some cutting and rewielding and some metal residue was left inside the exhaust pipes. It all eventually burned away I guess.

yeah the smell is prob def coming out of the exhaust. its prob your cats actually. it prob happened before but you never noticed because now you have more air flowing especially right when you start and its cold outside and still warming up. so i guess the question is does it happen after the car has been driven for alittle and is warmed up?

Yeah its only after about 20-30 minutes of being driven. There was not welding but it did have to stock on cut off at the last cat.
