Hello everyone,I've been lurking around here every since getting my 03 Vibe Base w/M&T.A question for you though, my 5spd shifter seems very loose. I've pulled off the boot and looked in and it looks like where the white plastic attaches to the metal shifter (see the red circles in the attached picture) there is a lot of play. I can move the metal horizontally between the white plastic supports. Is this normal? Any other thoughts? Thanks!
Plastic bushings are probably worn but as long as it's not falling apart you shouldn't have any trouble. You could hunt down a short throw shifter or go to the wreckers and have a look at shifters from various Corollas, Vibes, and Matrix to see what shape they're in and compare.
summit makes a set of brass shifter stabilizers. put them on my 03 gt and it makes a world of difference. can get them on ebay for like 15 bucks shipped

I think that's my shifter, I recognize the carpet from my old place! LOLThe bronze shifter bushings the others are mentioning will help, and an easy and inexpensive modification.
