TPMS + Snow Tires for 2008 and 2009 Vibes

I am currently looking to to purchase snow tires for both the 2008 and 2009 Vibes. I already have an extra set of rims for the 2008 Vibe and have a set of 16" being shipped out today for the 2009. Now my question is you everyone here, should I run the snow tires without installing the TPM in the rims on both Vibes or bite the bullet - purchase the sensors used and purchase a rebuilt kit to avoid the "warning light" being illuminated on the dash? And a side note - what winter tires will perform well yet not break the bank. Have to purchase 2 sets here. I have looked at the Winterforce and also Dunlops (which are way more money)... Suggestions reinforced with true stories/facts from real Vibe owers? The reviews on tirerack.com are good, but not all reviews are about Vibes.

Forget about the TPMS, specially if you already have to buy 2 sets of winter tires. I've made it trough last winter without TPMS and honestly you don't even see the small light after a while. As for tires, I am very pleased with my Pirelli Winter Carving Edge. The cost was reasonable and they have a good rating for snow and ice.

It doesn't hurt a thing to run without the TPMS sensors. If the illuminated warning light is a distraction, just do what I did. PlatinumVibe08

I'll be running my snows during this and future winters without sensors. I never had them during past decades and made out just fine. Save your money.

ou.grizzly, our TPMS needs to have the sensors' addresses programmed into the system *every* time you swap tires. (The controller only holds four addresses at a time.) See my new post in this forum for info about a tool that lets you DIY. Otherwise, expect to pay the dealer every time you want to swap from summer to winter and back.--Chris
