Columbus, OH Jack Maxton Chevrolet dealer ad today lists a "$500 Opt Out Bonus cash" on new Chevrolets. You get this extra $500 off the price if you opt out of the 60 day satisfaction guarantee. So this guarantee apparently is going to cost the buyer $500.Could GM be adding $500 to dealer cost to fund this program?Just when you thought GM couldn't possibly screw up again, this happens.

Hmmm, interesting, my mom just bought a '10 Malibu and I can't say I like it... lol... I've driven it more than mom now and I just can't stand some of the little things... The door lock levers, stick up right into the bottom of your arm when you have your arm resting on the door, window open.. The door panels themselves look soo cheap and there is a single layer of vinyl over the hard plastic, so the panels are hard... The 6 speed auto tranny sucks, takes days to make up it's mind it seems.. I've found a nice rattle in the passenger rear door, something is lose.. I don't know if it's the hubcaps (which are rather nice mind you) or what, but all sorts of noise comes from the wheels and it's SPEED dependent..!! Gets worse when you hit the brakes.. !!I wonder if she could opt out, and not even know it, because it wasn't TOLD to her...????

$500 - I wonder if that would have been enough to cover GM's cost of a 5 yr/60,000 mile bumper to bumper warranty instead of 3 yr/36,000.

I don't think you can view it as something the person pays for if they take it. It is an incentive. You will get $500 off if you don't take the option. If you take the option you are not paying an extra $500. Your just not getting the extra incentive. If they offer $2000 cash back and you miss the deadline, does that mean your car costs $2000 more? No, it just means that the special was over and the car is costing what it should (that is negotiable). If I go to Express and buy a T-shirt for $40, then get a second for $20 on a sale promotion, am I being forced to pay another $20 for the first shirt? No again, I'm paying what the shirt costs and getting a sale price.

My hunch may be wrong - I just thought that perhaps GM boostd the invoice in the cars by $500 to cover the expected cost of the return guarantee.
